Mosquitoes – Be careful, they are still there!

Heat and rain are the preferred environments for our Aedes Aegypti. Rainy weather favours the accumulation of stagnant water, and the temperature change from mild to hot accelerates mosquito reproduction.

The Aedes Aegypti prefers to lay its eggs in artificial places, so it is important to be careful not to let water accumulate in objects, especially in tires, bottles or any other suitable container for this. This mosquito usually rests in cool and shady places. In addition, it has such a low hum that it is almost imperceptible to the human ear.

In addition to prevention, it is necessary to understand the reason for the sudden increase in the presence of mosquitoes in our homes or workplaces. This is due to constant climate change, as the current situation of pollution, global warming, and gases emitted into the atmosphere interfere with the levels of rain and heat in each region, as well as influencing the increased reproduction of some insects.

9 Recommendations to avoid the mosquito plague:

Clean dishes and potted plants by filling them with sand (indoors and outdoors) or turning them upside down;

Put the garbage in a closed bag and keep the garbage containers closed and properly isolated;

Wash at least once a week, with a brush, the food and drink containers for animals to prevent mosquito larvae from developing inside the containers;

Store the tires in a covered place; if not possible, put sand so as not to accumulate water;

Remove the accumulated water from the floors and check for clogging of drains. Keep them closed when not in use;

Check the water gutters, removing leaves or other materials that could impede water flow. Avoid the accumulation of rubble!

Replace the water in natural flower vases to maintain humidity and avoid the formation of breeding grounds.

Try to avoid clothes in red, orange, black and cyan and protect your arms and legs, according to a study published in the scientific journal Nature Communications. These colours are the most attractive to mosquitoes. (To learn more, we recommend reading the article at this link: https://www.nature.com/articles/s41467-022-28195-x)

Place mosquito nets on the windows if necessary.

Extermínio® – Hygiene Controle, Lda. recommends:

– REPELIN (repellent) in aerosol, with an automatic dispenser, emits a dose at certain time intervals, thus allowing a greater repellent effect against mosquitoes;

– REPELIN Gel (repellent) is based on a combination of 5 active natural essences with repellent properties for flying insects (flies and mosquitoes).
